A paper, co-authored by Jade’s Chief Innovation Officer, John Ascroft, Dr Stephen Wingreen from the University of Canterbury and Amit Sarkar of Ara Institute, has been voted best research paper by the jury at the European, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Conference on Information Systems (EMCIS).
The paper, Governing Information Systems Resilience: A Case Study, is based on interviews with top decision makers at 30 organisations that survived the Christchurch earthquakes, and examines how documented information systems resilience plans greatly increase a business’ chances of surviving an earthquake.
The research found that Information Systems (IS) resilience was a major factor in the continued operation and successful recovery of organisations both large and small, public and private, however few have adequately documented resilience plans. It highlights the importance of practicing, testing and embedding these plans into the organisation, as well as partnering with organisations who also have robust systems and plans in place.
